Certified Foodies – our Food Blog is Finally Open!

Last week, we finally opened our food blog – Certified Foodies.certified-foodies-468x60I am sharing this food blog with my partner Mai and my brother Kenneth. They're both foodies and they both love to cook. We've been planning on setting up our own food blog for months and it was only this May that I started with the whole design and concept of the contents of our blog.

So, what can you expect from our food blog? Let me give you a preview.

  • Homestyle – This section of our blog would feature our recipes and how we recreated a dish or something we ate at a restaurant, or even from a food stall. We love recreating dishes we've tried somewhere because it helps us learn different ways of cooking. Also, it tests our taste buds and palate, too. We get to play ingredient guessing games while dining out. It's fun! :)

I've already posted the first episode of Homestyle with Mai's version of Kenny Rogers' Cheese and Garlic Potato.

  • Restaurant Reviews and Features
Of course, any food blog won't be complete without featured/reviewed restaurants. We won't just talk about the food itself, but the ambiance inside the restaurant. We'll make sure all are honest reviews and we’ll also talk about their menu.

  • Food Product Reviews and Features
We won't only be reviewing and featuring restaurants, but also food products that we've used or had ourselves that we know most people are not yet familiar with.

  • Our own Recipes
We will also be sharing our own recipes. All of our recipes will be easy to follow so you can try them out yourself at home.

Mai will be sharing mostly main dishes/entrees, while Kenneth will share dessert and cake recipes. You can check the About the Foodies page on our blog so you'd know what each of us would be contributing.

  • Our Foodie Adventures
We used to always go to the same restaurant and order the same thing or something familiar whenever we dine out. But, over the past 2 years, we have decided to try out different restaurants and food places to try out items on their menu that we haven't tasted anywhere else yet. So, you'd read about our discoveries on what's good at the food places we'll visit and we'll also tell you about ingredients that most people are not familiar with. Even cooking techniques and tips, we'll also share on our blog.

  • Food Photography
I'm the "budding" food photographer at Certified Foodies. I'm learning all by myself on how to make food look good on photos and on the web. There are different techniques that I've learned and perfected over the years of editing and manipulating photos that I find very useful now that I'm into food photography. I didn't go to art school so I'm still learning a bit on how the camera works, the effects of different lights on food, etc. I'm also learning how to work with garnishes and how to setup food to make them look yummy when I photograph them.

I'm only using a Sony Cybershot DSC-T2. I'm planning on getting a DSLR soon just for food photography, but I'm learning a lot with just my Cybershot. I believe it's really all about the angles and the lighting. And I believe I've got the soul of a photographer. I just need to hone my skills more by taking more photos. I don't agree I need to go to photography schools to take amazing photos of food. So, as I learn more and more on every frame, I'll share with you my experiences and techniques on our food blog.

There are a few more things you can expect from our food blog. I don't want to give it all away so as not to ruin the surprise. But, we've got a lot of things in store for our visitors.

We're also accepting link exchanges with other food bloggers. So, if you want to exchange link banners with us, please use the contact form on our blog.

Hope to see yah over at Certified Foodies!
