I'm a Certified Shopaholic

Yes, I admit, I am. I just realized it the other day when Mai and I went out to go buy photo papers in Manila. That was the only thing on our list. But, guess what happened?! We ended up with about 5,000 worth of items when we got home!

No, we're not the kind of shopaholics who buy shoes. Well, Mai loves shoes. She loves signature brands of shoes that costs at least Php 3,000. We've bought her 2 pairs of shoes - her Nike Flight 95 and Caterpillar steel-toe shoes.

The reason she loves buying expensive shoes is because these brands really last longer than fakes or any other brands that cost cheaper. I agree with her when it comes to buying pricey shoes, but for everything else, I'm a thrift.

Havaianas-slippersHowever, I have a pair of Havaianas slippers. Mai and her family "forced" me into buying this pair. *LOL* I gave in because I really loved the color and the design. After the purchase, I swore I'll never buy anything that expensive again! *LOL* Not even for a pair of wedding shoes. It's worth the purchase, by the way, because I've been using it for over 3 years now and it hasn't disappointed me. However, I don't like that it's a bit too hard on my feet. I guess that's what I get for wanting a long-lasting flip-flop.

Mai and I are not also into gadgets. However, we bought her a PSP and I got myself a new phone (the one that gave up on me 2 months ago) as soon as I got my last credit card activated in 2007. Then, we bought my laptop because I told Mai I really want to focus on blogging and making money online. My new phone, my Nokia 5230, I got for free from winning a contest (lucky me 'cause that happened a week after my old phone broke). We're planning on buying a DSLR camera soon for our food blog - Certified Foodies. That's about it. We don't buy any gadget unless we really need it, well, except for that PSP. *LOL*

So, what do we LOVE to buy? No, I don't like buying clothes or stockings. Mai's not into shopping for fashion either. What, then, do we love to shop for?

groceriesGROCERIES

I know, some people might say groceries are necessities  so it's okay. But, no. Most of the time, the grocery items we buy are really necessities. However, the reason why I call us shopaholics is because we can't help but drop by grocery stores whenever we're close to one. This week alone, we went grocery shopping twice. We already spent over a thousand last Sunday, and we spent about 2 thousand when we went to Malabon Citi-Square Supermarket the other day. Both are unplanned grocery-shopping, by the way. We were supposed to go shopping next month for our get-together poker night with my friends. It's like we can't stay away from supermarkets/grocery stores!

You might be wondering what we usually buy at the grocery. Well, since Mai loves cooking, she makes sure she buys something that she can use for her next planned dish. Now that our food blog is almost up, we made a pact that she'll shop for ingredients everytime we go out. However, we end up buying more than what she needs. Like the other day, we didn't plan on buying treats for our baby puppy Choco, but we did. We spent about Php 400 on her alone. Hah!

We've got our own storage place for our groceries in our room. Right now, there are cans of pineapple chunks that are still unused after about 2 months. Mai bought 5 more packs of her favorite noodles when there are still 4 packs left at our "stock" drawer. I also have a couple of snacks and other stuff in there that I haven't touched for over a month, but we still went grocery-shopping. *LOL*

After this realization, while Mai was arranging our newly-bought grocery items, we swore we'll allot a budget of Php 3,000 every month for grocery-shopping. The rest of our money would go to our savings or would be carried over to the next month. This way, we can really control how much we're spending on shopping alone. We've got big plans for our future so we really have to take this seriously.

I know we can do this because with our plans on losing weight, I already lost a couple of inches on my waist. That's how determined we are when we set our minds into something. So, hopefully, by next year, we'll have the first things on our wishlist fulfilled. *Woot* I'm excited! :)
