As soon as I learned that the Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved the Php 40 taxi flagdown rate, I flew off the handle! I mean, seriously?!
Just to give you a brief background about why I got so irritated upon hearing this news, back when I was still working as a supervisor at a call center in Cubao, I would need to take a cab 'cause my schedule usually starts after 12 midnight. When I'm not in such a hurry, I can wait for my trusted taxi, MGE or EMP. But, when I've been waiting for too long, I end up with other unreliable taxi cabs.
Believe me when I say I've had my more than fair share of abusive and cheating taxi cabs and drivers. I've argued with dozens of taxi drivers already 'cause I just cannot accept to pay Php 20 pesos plus or higher than my usual fare for the same destination. I hate being cheated off my hard-earned money. So, I make sure the driver hears what I want to say. I've tried to keep my cool a lot of times and ignore the butingting on their meters, but it just irritates me more when I don't get a say on what's happening.
So, this news that the LTFRB approved the Php 40 taxi flagdown fare hike really made me ballistic! For crying out loud, do something first to minimize cheating taxi companies! In all my years of riding taxi cabs, I can say that out of all the taxi cabs I've hailed (not counting MGE and EMP), only 30% of them had fair, reliable taxi meters. And that's really alarming. *sigh*
I even have a special section for abusive and cheating taxi drivers on Pinay Reviewer. And I've got a list of taxi cab plate numbers of those who have tampered meters and are very rude towards us. I'll be updating my blog with the list soon.
So, this taxi flagdown hike really irritated me. But, sad to say, I don't have any choice 'cause I still need to take taxi cabs, especially after grocery-shopping. Even when I have mbt shoes or comfortable slippers on, I know I still prefer taking taxi cabs than taking the bus.
Aside from the Php 40 taxi flagdown rate hike, the per 300-meter rate is now Php 3.50. Tsk. All these cheaters are rejoicing now.
LTFRB approved the petition on December 23, 2010. So, 15 days after that, which will be on January 7th, the fare increase would be implemented. I now dread taking a cab more than ever!
I also heard that there'll be an increase with the jeepney fare. It'll be Php 8.00. Now, that, I don't have a problem with.
What do you think of the new taxi flagdown rate? Please share your thoughts. :)
