Teen Addiction - It's a Sad World

A few days ago, I overheard a few of our customers here at our computer shop talking about this teen from their school who got kicked out because of drug addiction. I was shocked! The teen was their batchmate so that means he's also around 15 years old. I mean, seriously?

Well, upon listening further and butting in a couple of times (I do this a lot and my young customers are more than willing to share with me *lol*), I found out the kid's parents are "allegedly" pushers. I remember one of my friends saying to me before that that's part of the parents' karma - like an eye for an eye. They were drug pushers and their karma is their kid ending up as one of those addicted to the drugs they're selling. Sad story, isn't it?

Anyway, I also heard that the kid was doing good back in elementary, but when he entered high school, he got into the wrong crowd and ended up with the wrong set of friends. A very typical story, if you ask me, but still as disturbing every time I hear it. I just hope he'll get the teenager addiction help he needs. If he can't get it from his parents, he needs a professional or to go to a youth drug rehabilitation center to get his life straight while it's not too late.

The statistics on teen addiction in our country may not be as disturbing as in other countries, but it does affect a lot of families. I even had a friend from UP Diliman who passed away because of drug addiction. He was smart and had a lot of promise for a very successful future. But, he ended up getting addicted to prohibited drugs 'cause of all the stress he was getting from his studies and his parents. Poor him. I tried to help, but I can only do so much as a friend. I wished his parents knew what he was going through before it was way too late. Tsk. What a waste of talent.
