It’s summer once again and students vacation already started this week. This may be the excellent time for people to hit the beaches, but for most boys at the age of 10 years old to 15, it’s time for them to man up and have themselves circumcised.

Okay, I’m not going to talk about circumcision since I’m a woman. But, every summer, my mother, who’s a full-time Public Health Nurse, takes this opportunity to earn some extra money. She offers circumcision services here at her mini-clinic at home.

Right now, we’re still in the process of getting her clinic constructed. So, she has this makeshift mini-clinic in our home. She has everything needed to perform circumcisions, PAP smear, and anything related to women’s reproductive health.

She has her own scrubs at home that she wears when attending to patients, especially those who undergo circumcision. She buys her medical supplies from medical supplies stores in Manila, around the area of Bambang. I’ll ask her next time where to buy medical scrubs so I can provide that information here, too.

Two years ago, my mother offered free circumcision services to our neighbors here in Malabon City. She had my brother, who’s also a nurse, help her out since there were A LOT of kids who took advantage of the free services. After that year, the next summer vacations, she started offering her circumcision services for a very inexpensive fee to cover all the medical supplies she needs to perform the said service. Now, every year, over a dozen kids flock her mini-clinic at home. There were even some who came from Navotas and Caloocan. I guess the word spread that my mom performs quality circumcisions so they came flocking here. ^_^

I also remember over a year ago, my mother trained a couple of my brother’s friends, who were also nurses, on how to circumcise. They offered free circumcision services in some areas in Navotas while wearing their own medical nursing scrubs. Amazing, eh? That’s one thing I love about my mother – she inspires people to be of good service to others. :)

I wish I could offer something for free this year. But, no, not anything medical. I didn’t take up a medical course in college ‘cause I know it’s not just meant for me. I get weak at the sight of blood. Seriously! So, I’d possibly offer free computer tutorials. If I can’t do it this year, I’ll do my best to offer that next year. :)
