Music That’s Uniquely AJKA

For the past months, I see the music lover in me fancying and listening more often to new music artists with unique styles and sound. Take for instance my recently developed passion for Adele’s music.

That’s why when I discovered about AJKA, an up-and-coming band, and got to listen to their songs, I found myself falling in love with K.A. Antonio’s unique vocal stylings and the unwinding music produced by the rest of the band – JL delas Llagas on guitars, Aaron Caligner on bass and Jon Pinto on drums.

AJKA recently launched their debut album “Undefined” at Club Phi in Metrowalk. It’s released under Sony Music, in cooperation with Nescafe and G.A. Yupangco & Co. Inc.

If you aren’t familiar with the band yet, they’re actually the winner of the 2010 Nescafe 3-in-1 Soundskool college band search. They all hail from De La Salle University where they all performed as part of DLSU’s orchestra, now known as Surreli Pops Orchestra.

Prior to their victory in Soundskool, they have joined various Battle of the Bands competitions. They decided to try competing in Soundskool for a chance to be heard by a wider audience. And I’m glad they did.

Their eclectic music, which they describe as “pop with a hint of jazz, funk and soul”, was what won the hearts of music lovers, thus earning them the victory as 2010 Nescafe 3-in-1 Soundskool champion.

Their original song “Tanong Lang”, which helped them emerge as the winner in Soundskool, is included in their debut album. It’s a romantic song with a jazzy and funky feel to it. Here’s how KA, the vocalist, described their lead single:

“The lyrics say it all. It’s a sweet flattery of questions confirming the real feelings of the person. Being the first ever single, this song began the band,” KA said.

Their album “Undefined” is produced by Jonathan Ong of Gloc9 and Letter Day Story and The Youth’s Robert Javier. On what the listeners can expect from their album, AJKA’s drummer Jon has this to say...

“Expect vocal excellence, groovy bass lines, warm guitar riff, and punchy drumming.”

I also got to listen to 2 of their original songs in the album, “In Denial” and “Endless” (played the former in nonstop repeat the other day… that’s how much I loved it!). And I can honestly tell you AJKA’s on their way to success with their distinctive sound and original songs that I know a lot of people can relate to. Again, let’s support OPM and grab a copy of AJKA’s debut album “Undefined” under Sony Music.
