Last week was one of my very best friends’ birthday – Jasmin. I haven’t posted about her as much as I’ve posted about Tina, my other very best friend (VBF), but she’s pretty special to me, too.
I’ve been friends with Jaan (Jasmin) since high school. That’s over 17 years! Wow. We don’t get to see each other as much as before because of all our busy schedules and lives. But, I know that doesn’t mean we’re not as close as before.
Most of our conversations now are through text messaging, Facebook posting and chatting. I’m so glad we’ve got all that technology to keep us updated about each other’s lives.
For the past years, to tell you honestly, I haven’t been in constant communication with them for some reasons I don’t want to expound on anymore. But, I know nothing really has changed. I even believe our friendship has reached new heights. :)
A few months ago, Jasmin’s family experienced one of the most devastating situations anyone can encounter – her mom fell ill of septic arthritis. It was all a surprise for us, her friends, so just imagine how much worse they were feeling.
After years of not being together, all 5 of us, my barkadang tunay (what I call my high school barkada), saw each other again. I was the one who’s mostly absent the past years, but I know how important it was for us to be there for Jaan.
Here’s a photo of us at the hospital. I know, it’s not the best time to be taking photos, but you’d have to understand we haven’t been together in over 5 years!Jaan’s mother, Mama Josie, is doing better now. And I’m really praying she’ll continue on to fully recovering.
Going back to Jaan’s birthday celebration, it’s been a really long time since I last set foot in their home. As soon as we were let in at the gate, memories started rushing back, all those fun times we spent at their home. *sigh*
Their front yard was the only place that had a major renovation. They now have a place their for entertaining people or for simply hanging out. It’s pretty cool. We spent most of the night there chattering away with pictorials (LOL) in between.
My nanay actually had almost the same plans for our backyard. We were even teasing her to put up a pool or mini jacuzzi and we’ll just place hot tub covers on them since there are a lot of cats and bugs around. But, I think she’ll just go with putting up a mini-hut there for entertaining guests. :))
Only me and Tina were able to come for Jaan’s dinner birthday celebration. Here’s a photo of us 3 at their frontyard. I’ve got pretty soul sistahs, eh?
Jaan also loves to cook so she prepared these dishes for us:
Those are nachos, baked potatoes topped with cheese and bacon, and pasta with red and white sauce.
I roasted a whole chicken at home and brought it, too. I forgot to turn off the roaster as I was busy preparing to leave so the skin was a li’l burnt. Well, it was also because of the honey I used. Hehehe. Anyway, I also brought along pork liempo that Jaan’s been craving for.
No, I’m not posting these food photos on Certified Foodies so they’re all posted here hehehe. But, I’ve asked Jaan to be one of the contributors ‘cause, well, she’s a damn good cook, too! :)
Jaan’s boyfriend’s mother, as a gift, made her this HUGE custard cake. Can you see how thick the flan is on top of the cake?! I had seconds… wait, no, fourths of this custard cake. It was delish!
After dining, we decided to hang out at their front yard. We chattered away, catching up on each others’ lives, ‘til 5:00 in the morning! I super enjoyed it and I really want us to get together more often. I really miss them. So much! :)
Here are more photos of us taken that night. I’m still waiting on the photos from our “pictorial”, courtesy of Jaan’s youngest brother James.
Can’t wait to hang out with them again. We might push through with our weekly badminton sessions. Woot! :)
I love you, Jaan and Tina! FRIENDS FOR LIFE! :) ♥♥♥
