Since I’ve been really busy lately with my offline and online tasks (blogging included), and joining events I get invited or sign up to, I’ve wanted to hire an assistant at my icafe who’d cover for me permanently when I’m off to somewhere. But, the main reason why I needed one is so I can focus on finishing everything on my to-do list and on my money-making ventures.
Let me tell you how I hired my assistant. I didn’t get a chance to put up a sign that I’m hiring. His mother just happened to see the construction at our house and asked if we’re in need of a helper. She recommended that I hire her youngest son.
My back was up against the wall, I tell yah. I sympathized with her stories and I ended up hiring him unprepared. *LOL*
Let’s just call him Mario. Here’s a photo I took of him while he was editing photos for printing (yes, I already taught him that!).
Left with no choice, I told his mother that I want him to start by June 1st. Good thing my friend Badeth, who also owns a computer shop, asked me if she can “borrow” and train him for a couple of days while her family and one of her assistants are in Boracay. So, when I had to ask him to start 2 days earlier, he was ready.
So far, I already taught him how to print photos and documents, scan images, laminate stuff (that’s one of my new services!), fill up the reports (I check it every night!), etc. I told him I’m going to teach him more in the next coming days.
Right now, he’s enjoying the typing tutorial app I had him use to help him improve his typing skills. He’s only been with me for almost 3 weeks, but his typing is quite better now! He’s truly a fast learner. And, oh, he’s only 18.
I may have had a li’l issue with him the past week, but I believe I got that sorted out. I guess that’s really one of the risks when you have other people helping you with your business while you’re away. I audit everything after that incident. :)
That’s quite a big leap for me. I have trust issues and when someone breaks that trust, I usually get all irritated, fired up and all. But, I’m managing that better now. I learned to trust people more and give them the benefit of the doubt.
Right now, I’m still quite the busy bee. I’ve got tons of things to do, including adding more template designs for my printing services at my shop. I design and print invitations for birthdays, graduation announcements, weddings, etc. I also design personalized calendars, greeting cards, photo frames, and a lot more. That’s what’s keeping me busy most days, but I’m loving it! I get to hone my graphics design skills. :)
Next year, Mario might go back to school. By then, I should have a replacement for him. But, right now, I’m relishing in the comforts of not having to wake up and open my shop at 9am and having more time to do what I want while still earning money. I thank God for all the blessings talaga. :)
