Custom Poster Designs and the Frustrated Graphics Designer In Me

One of the things I love doing whenever I’m riding the bus on the way to wherever I need to be is checking out advertising billboards all around the Metro. I love those custom posters where companies or different brands show off their personalities, what they’re there for and their creativity in conveying their message to the public. It does take the boredom away, especially when I’m traveling from Makati all the way to Monumento (I usually don’t take the MRT when going home).

This reminds me of how much I wanted to work in the advertising industry back in my third year in college. I think I have a knack for coming up with catchy phrases that brands can use for their taglines. I also have some pretty funny or creative ideas to boot. I wanted to master Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Corel, and all those other graphic design software to seriously make a career out of it. So, yes, I consider myself a frustrated graphics designer. *LoL*

A Christening invitation template I designedI designed this template for Christening invitations. If you’ve seen this design somewhere,
it’s because I shared it among my fellow LAN shop owners. The baby there is a friend’s son.

Here at my computer shop, I’ve actually made use of my graphics design skills. I actually have poster printing services, but so far, I’ve only had 2 orders ever since I started my business. They were even for posting at a local school here. But, I’ve had about a dozen of tarp design orders. I guess it’s really because of my shop’s location. We’re not in a commercial area so people don’t really come around here to avail of what I offer since most of them don’t even know we exist. I need to work on that in the coming months. Marketing skills? Gotta put them to good use! ^_^

If my bro’s preferred industry is food and beverage, I believe that design is where I belong. I just need to hone my skills because I even haven’t used Illustrator yet to create my own designs. Most of what I do, I only design in Photoshop. I hope I’d have more time to practice more and create my own graphics. And hopefully by next year, I’d venture into my own custom poster printing business, just like at Poster Brain where people can have their own designs into big-sized posters overnight, no matter how knowledgeable they are in design. I say they’re great for celebrations like birthdays, anniversaries, Christening, baby showers and the like.

Here’s one design I made for a customer. I changed the photo, of course. I loved how it looked when it was printed. They also loved it so much that they came back a month after to have another set of tarp and poster designs for their family reunion.
