I’m a Proud Kid of the 80s!

While checking my feeds yesterday, I saw this:

Kids in the 80s

Most of the time, I feel too old whenever I mingle with people. It’s like almost everyone around me are younger and are calling me “ate” or “ma’am”. Though most people mistake me for being 25-28 years old, I still feel really old.

But, when I read that, it made me feel blessed to have lived in the 80s. I feel like we’re more patient than the kids today. It could be because of all the technological advancement we’ve been experiencing the past years. People have been generally impatient.

Now, we complain about our 2Mbps connection, when about a decade ago, dialup internet connection speeds were considered very decent. These days, I see people complaining when a site fails to load in less than 5 seconds (my customers at the shop).

My bro and I usually will go into discussions like wondering how we used to live without a computer. I remember panicking when we went to Pagudpud in 2010. We didn’t have any WiFi access and I felt I’m not going to survive. But, surprisingly, it was one of the best things that could’ve happened to us during that trip. It was a blessing in disguise. I was able to bond more with my travel companions and I had more urge to explore. I didn’t even miss my internet connection. I had a ton of emails and messages waiting for me when I got home though. LOL

I remember owning my very first cellphone, a Nokia 5110. It was funny remembering how proud I was I have that phone. I will usually show it off ‘cause it was so fricking cool back then. Yeah, I used to be like that. *LOL* Now, I have a Blackberry Bold 9900 phone, and I’m scared to let anyone else see it when I’m travelling. :))

The Family Computer, BOW

I remember getting all hooked on playing patintero, Chinese garter, and base-to-base with my friends back at our old home in Navotas. I had a ton of exercise when I was a kid. It all ended though when I got addicted to the family computer. I can play Super Mario, Contra (can you still remember the combo to get hundred lives?! LOL) and Sparta for hours! It was the start of my life as a geek. LOL

*sigh* Very fun memories. What’s your favorite memory from the 80s?
