Lousy Reality TV Victories in 2009

I've been a big fan of Reality TV shows ever since I first saw the Survivor : Australian Outback series years ago. These "reality" shows appealed to me because they have ordinary people - amateurs - who are vying for the win. And as early as the first 5 episodes, I usually have a fave contestant already and I'll be really irritated if they don't win in the end.

I've got a longggggggggg list of Reality TV shows that I watch religiously and here are a few of my absolute faves:

  • SurvivorSamoaLogo Survivor - I CANNOT miss an episode of Survivor. I started watching Survivor : Australian Outback and was upset that Tina won over Colby. I've been a fan since then. I love the competitiveness and strategy that players have to apply in the game to "survive" it. I just hate it when the under-the-radar (UTR) castaways win over the more strategic player just because feelings were hurt.

  • American Idol - For some, American Idol might not be a "reality" show for them, but, for me, it is since it showcases "real" people fulfilling their dreams of becoming successful professional singers. It also shows raw talent, emotions and upsets.

  • So You Think You Can Dance - I also love dancing so this show is one of my absolute faves. I hate Nigel Lithgoe, though, but I guess I have to thank him partly because he was one of those who conceptualized this show. Anyway, again, I consider this a "reality" show because it features "real" dancers who are struggling to make it in the world of show business. A lot of amazing performances made this show on the top of my list.

  •  America's Next Top Model - No, I don't like the show because I want to become a model or something. I just love watching these model wannabes' cat fights. LOLz. Just kidding. I think the reasons why I like the show are Tyra Banks and the photos. But, it kinda becomes boring at times. Still, I get amused by these wannabes battling it out for the title.

  • 69951kvfhTop Chef - I love watching anything that has to do with food. And since my partner Mai is a frustrated chef, we love, love, love, love watching Top Chef. It actually inspired Mai to prepare dishes that were featured in the show that are not typically seen or prepared here in the PH. And, since I love eating, I enjoy the effect of the show on her 'coz I get to eat dishes like Gnocchi and Pierogi - things you can usually eat only when you go fine dining.

  • Hell's Kitchen - A lot of cursing going on but I love Gordon Ramsey. Like what I said, I love TV shows that are about food so this is another one of them. I also love seeing the inner workings of a kitchen - like how line chefs and executive chefs work.

Those are just a few of the reality shows on the top of my list. I also watch Project Runway, The Apprentice (US), Dancing with the Stars (skipped watching last season, though), The Amazing Race, etc.

Last year, 2009, for me was a year of lame, lousy reality TV victories. I have not moved on from how upset I am for my faves not winning, but, that's reality show for you. So, let me tell you about the lousy victories for me in 2009:

  • Survivor : Samoa
RussellNatalieRussell Hantz losing over Natalie White really angered me. Russell deserved the title over anyone in Survivor   history so I don't freaking understand why the jury still lets their feelings overcome their brains. It's a fucking game. Why don't they learn?! Sheesh! If you play Poker, do you think you'd win if you play the NICE card?! Idiots.

And I hate Natalie for not mentioning that her biggest strategy in the game was to align herself with Russell. Good thing Russ pointed that one out. Like, c'mon! Natalie, Jaison and Mick won't make it in the finals if Russ wasn't there. They were a bunch of whiners and idiots. Too weak to win the freaking game.

During the finale, I was laughing at what Natalie said when Russ offered to buy the title of Sole Survivor from her. She was like, "you have to deserve it". Like, damn, he does, and you fucking don't! Natalie was a freaking under-the-radar player and whose only strategic move was to get one of the other tribe's members voted out - Eric. That's about it. 99% of the time, she was following Russell's orders. I can't believe she really thinks she deserves the title. I mean, c'mon! Doesn't she know that the votes she got wasn't for her to win, but, they were votes AGAINST Russell?! Sheesh. Idiot.

I'm just glad Russell won the title of Favorite Survivor for Survivor : Samoa because that only goes to show that the fans of Survivor voted for him as the most strategic and loved Survivor castaway and that's what really matters.

  • American Idol
adam Words are not enough to express how disappointed and mad I am that Adam Lambert did not win last year's season of American Idol. I still believe that Kris Allen won because of votes he got that were AGAINST Adam, not for him. And I believe Kris knows that. He was totally surprised and even said that Adam deserves the win more than he does.

I also like Kris but the result of last year's American Idol finale votes was just extremely frustrating. I mean, c'mon! We won't see anyone as talented and consistent as Adam Lambert was during the whole season of American Idol last year. He was the only one who consistently gave it his best and really entertained everyone.

This is why I believe, like most of the people out there, that Adam didn't win simply because he was gay. The voters were against him because of morality issues of being gay. Sheesh. It's already 2010. Move on, judgmental, self-righteous homophobics.

Not winning kinda helped Adam's career, though, because he's now more popular than Kris and his supporters were more determined to help him succeed because he didn't win. It's like they wanna show everyone that Adam deserves the title more.

I know, Adam didn't really need the title to be successful in showbiz but I still believe that the most talented singer and performer should've won - and that's not Kris Allen.

  • The Celebrity Apprentice II
This is another win that I've been extremely upset about since last year - Joan Rivers winning over professional poker player Annie Duke.

AnnieDukeApprenticeI know it was just a fucking stunt when Donald Trump chose Joan over Annie in the end. I just don't understand why he had to make that stupid decision when he was blabbering about his show to be all about who raised the most money. In the end, he chose Joan because he saw that people had more FUN in Joan's event. Like, how stupid do you think people are?!

I like Joan as a comedienne but personality-wise, what she showed in this Celebrity Apprentice series was just so embarrassing. She was so fucking self-righteous, even compared Annie to Hitler. I don't understand why she's so fucking mad at Annie when she's just being a strategic player, as always, to win the game. Joan had fights with most of her fellow celebrity contestants because of her self-righteousness. You're not a completely decent human being. You made a career out of making fun of other people, for crying out loud. Don't freaking hate on Annie just because she's witty and smarter than you.

I'm guessing Trump didn't wanna lose Joan Rivers so he paid her to go back to the show after her daughter, Melissa Rivers, got fired. And I believe that he promised to make Joan the winner if she returns. That's the only sensible reason that I know would drive Trump to choose her as the winner.

Whatever happened, I know that everyone, even Joan's fans, know that Annie deserves to win last year's season of Celebrity Apprentice.

  • So You Think You Can Dance
SYTYCD had 2 seasons last year and in both series, the winners were not the most deserving contestants for me.

275px-So_You_Think_You_Can_Dance.svgIn Season 5, Jeanine Mason winning over Brandon Bryant was a shock. I did like Jeanine but I strongly believed that Brandon deserved the title more than she did. Brandon was a fan fave and the most talented dancer I've seen in the show. He was consistent since the beginning of the series, unlike Jeanine who only blossomed during the last bits of the show.

Then, in Season 6, Russell Ferguson winning over Jakob Karr was an upset for me, too. Jakob was also very consistent. He was the most talented dancer in this season. Russ was more likeable, I guess, hence, the title "America's Favorite Dancer".

I'm starting to believe that Nigel Lythgoe had something to do with who won SYTYCD and American Idol - he seems to express how much he hates gays. Okay, that might be a very strong word. Nigel is not in favor of gays. He has expressed his homophobia a lot of times during SYTYCD - in auditions and show proper - so I believe he only wanted straight people to win his contests.

  • Survivor : Tocantins
Tocantinslogoqy7 Another upset for me - JT Thomas winning over Stephen Fishbach. Some might say that they were both strategic and JT was physically more competitive than Stephen so he deserves the win. However, for me, Stephen should've won because, if not for him, JT won't even have a shot of winning the title of Sole Survivor. Stephen was the only castaway in Survivor : Tocantins who got his game on since the beginning.

Stephen and Taj Johnson-George were the only ones who played the game since the start. They only needed JT to win immunity challenges to reach the finale. JT was like a puppet the whole time. They both lied to the members of the jury to get them voted out so I don't really understand why they thought JT deserved the title more. Sheesh.

I hope the next series of Survivor - Heroes vs Villains - won't turn out as bad as Survivor All-Star, where Amber won over Rob who clearly deserved the win. I really hate it when people go all emotional and self-righteous in the finale. It's a freaking game! Get over it.

Those are just 6 of the lousy Reality TV victories in 2009 and I hope that this won't continue in 2010. I hope there'll be more talented contestants joining American Idol and SYTYCD, more open-minded and strategic castaways in Survivor this year. I hope to see more talent and wit in all the reality shows I love watching. But, that's the thing - they're reality shows so I'm not expecting too much. I just have my fingers crossed 'coz I still love these reality shows.
