Romantic Ways to Propose... for me

loveheartIn almost a month from now, it's Valentine's day again. Love is in the air and I won't be surprised to see couples around me getting engaged. Last year alone, I had 2 friends who got engaged on Valentine's day. It's such a cliche, if you ask me, because I feel that Valentine's day shouldn't be THE day for love and for couples.

My partner and I can't get married YET because, well, we're both women. She did try to propose to me, but, I didn't take her seriously everytime because I know it's not going to happen. Well, at least not here in our country. It's a sad fact that same sex marriage is still not allowed or recognized here in my country, but, I'm really hoping it will happen soon. That got me thinking about how and what I consider as romantic ways to propose.

If you're thinking about proposing to your partner and you're still thinking about how you can make sure that moment would be remembered and cherished forever, I might have a few suggestions...

  • I've always loved to take a cruise. I've never been on one so this would be ultimately romantic for me. I would cunardjust love the peaceful, cool breeze of the sea. You can choose wherever you want to go with your partner and you can end the cruise with your proposal for marriage. You can have a romantic private dinner with some feel-good music to get you both in the mood. I would love to go on a cruise to the Caribbean. Well, this is for those who have money to spare for an elegant or extravagant way to propose to someone. If you know your partner would love it, then, save up now! I know for sure it'll be something that she'll never forget!

  • My partner and I love food. She loves to cook and, well, I love eating (LOL). So, if you're a couple like us, then, a romantic dinner would be great. I would suggest to keep it on the down low because most women can detect if you're up to something, especially when you're proposing. Try to keep it simple so as not to give away the moment of surprise. You can cook for her if you're up to it or take her to a nice restaurant you both have never been before OR you can dine in your favorite place. To some people, this might be a typical or ordinary way to propose, but, I still consider it romantic because enjoying food together with my partner is a bonding moment for me.
    icecream
I remembered this story: A friend of mine proposed to his 5-year girlfriend through ice cream. They both love ice cream and so he bought her an ice cream cone at Enchanted Kingdom and placed the ring just underneath the first scoop. They were with friends who also had no idea about the proposal. So, they were all surprised, and teary-eyed, when he knelt and asked her girlfriend to mary her after the ring was revealed. Very romantic, for me. Even his friends had goosebumps during the proposal.

  • Do something crazy! Something that you both haven't tried. Nothing beats sharing fear and thrills together so it might be the perfect way for you to propose.

karaoke I remember a friend of mine who proposed to her girlfriend of 2 years by inviting her and their friends at a karaoke bar.  Her girlfriend doesn't drink so he knew she'd be sober enough to answer when he pops the question. My friend hated karaoke and her girlfriend loves it so he felt that it was the perfect way for him to propose - to make her see him sing in front of many people. He wanted to propose for over a month - he couldn't find the courage to finally do it so he relied on some wine to help him (Not that I'm suggesting alcohol but it might help with the jitters). He asked one of his friends to help him change the lyrics of the last part of his girlfriend's favorite song to that of a marriage proposal. When it was his time to sing, he got so carried away with the lyrics of the song Wonderful Tonight that he was teary-eyed the whole time. His girlfriend walked up to him to wipe his tears and he couldn't hold it any longer that he immediately dropped down on his knees to propose without waiting for the part of the song where he was supposed to propose. It was definitely an "AAWWWWW" moment for everyone. I was actually there and when I looked around, I can tell you that there were no DRY eyes in that karaoke bar that night! Gosh.

I have a few more on my list but those are the 3 romantic ways to propose for me. If you want to share your own story - either you proposed or someone proposed to you - I hope you can share it with me here because I got a friend who's planning on proposing to her 11-year girlfriend (yes, 11 years! What was he waiting for?!? LOL) and he's looking for creative ways to propose.
