Back when I was still working as a team leader in a call center here in the Philippines, I've always looked forward to Thanksgiving day, a holiday/festival that's celebrated only in the USA and Canada. Why? Because we barely get calls on that day because most Americans are busy with their Thanksgiving day celebrations with their loved ones. If we do get calls, most of the customers are in a happy mood. We usually get fewer calls the day before Thanksgiving and after, which is Black Friday. Most of the customers would greet us "Happy Thanksgiving!" and I actually love greeting them back.
Because of this, Mai and I thought about celebrating Thanksgiving Day, too. I know that we got lots of time to thank God for the blessings, but, it'd be nice to plan a family get-together once a year, especially now that my parents already met Mai's.
Just the thought of it makes me smile. I guess that's one of the things that I envy about Americans - Thanksgiving day. Because from what I've seen and heard, they really do their best to make this day very special for them and their loved ones. I don't have a big family (we're just 4 - my mom, dad, me and my brother) so celebrating with Mai's family would really be lovely.
Last New Year, though, we had a family reunion here at home for my dad's side of the kin. It was really fun, especially when we raised a toast for the New Year. I felt so close to all of them, even though I don't know all of those who attended the reunion. I'm really looking forward to the next family reunion in 2011. And I hope Mai's whole family could also celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year with my family soon.
