I was browsing through posts of Makoy over at his blog, The Certified Pinoy Blogger, and one of his posts in January caught my attention - High School Revisited. I found it funny to read because we had exactly the same reaction when a couple of my batchmates in High School posted our old photos on Facebook. I wanted to untag (Is that even a word? Well, Urban dictionary says it is *LOL*) myself from the photos because I don't want my new acquaintances to see how nerdy I looked back in high school. I decided to leave the tags there because I realize that everything that happened to me in high school affected how I turned out as an adult. I'm still a bit nerdy, though. *LOL*
In his post, Makoy also wrote that he considers Facebook as a miracle in reconnecting people. I couldn't agree with him more. I never thought I would even miss high school and my batchmates as much as I did when I saw our class photos and snapshots of our school, St. James Academy. It really brought back a lot of fun memories for me, especially when a lot of my batchmates were sharing their own memories of each photo. *sigh* I love it!
A few posts back, I published a photo of me back when I was in High School with a more recent photo of me, still wearing glasses. Here's the photo just so you know what I meant when I said I was nerdy back then:
Look at my oversized glasses! *LOL* Imagine how scared I was to post that photo 'cause I was thinking people would really laugh at how I looked back then. Well, go ahead. I also laughed hard when I saw that ID photo. I still wear glasses now, as you can see on the right photo, but I look better... and happier, right? I don't know why I wasn't even smiling on my ID photo. And look at my hair! Hahaha.
I remember people calling me "Cory" and "Freddie Aguilar" because of my bad hair, and well, because they both wear glasses, too. I didn't really mind 'cause I don't think much of my classmates back then. *LOL* Also, I wasn't really a girly-girl back then, if you know what I mean. I hate dressing up. I only wear what's comfortable and I don't take care of myself that much as I do now. Just look at my eyebrows back in high school. I couldn't even believe that I had boyfriends lining up when I looked like that back in high school. What did they see in me?! Sheesh! *LOL*
I'm glad I look better now. I guess that usually is the case for most people, even with Makoy. After high school, a lot of things change. We become more mature, more independent, thus, we start to feel better and happier with ourselves that we start to want the outside to reflect what we feel inside. Well, that is the case with me.
Now, I feel more carefree and I love myself more. Don't get me wrong, I had no emotional issues back in high school. I was on top of my class, and I'm even one of the best in Math, English, Physics and Chemistry. I got decent amounts of awards and was even an active student in our school. However, I felt limited back then. Now, I can do whatever I wanted in life.
I guess I don't really miss high school. I just love hearing from my classmates in high school and their conversations about what they miss the most about our school, our teachers and classmates. What I'm saying is I'm not like some people who wish they could go back to high school. I don't want that. I'm happy with where and how I am now. :)
Anyway, before I end this post, I wanted to share with you some photos of my elementary and high school days. By the way, you know local celebrity Angelika dela Cruz, right? She's my batchmate. Hope I can find a photo of her back in high school so you'd see how she looked back then when she was still sporting blonde hair. :)
(Pardon some of the photos 'cause most of them were damaged)My Nanay with me on my first communion.
Look at her Afro hair, which I think was a hit in the 80s. *LOL*
No, it's not that I hate photo shoots. The sun was just shining too brightly that day. Look at everyone else's face.
I think this was my Fourth grade class photo. And that's my expression of the late Cory Aquino.
Third year High School class photo. I looked a bit better, but still nerdy. Not sure why a lot of my classmates weren't looking at the camera. This wasn't a "wacky" shot, mind you. I guess the look-away-from-the-camera pose was huge during these years. I had no idea. Hehehe.
My fourth year HS class photo. This is a wacky shot, but I wasn't feeling "wacky". *LoL*
By the way, look at how straight I was parting my hair back then. Eeeww. Hahaha!
