Bucket List #3 – Grow a Garden

Bucket List #3 - Grow a Garden - JustAnotherPixel.net

I don't have a green thumb, but, after my mom had our backyard renovated into a garden, I got a bit inspired. My parents started growing flowers and some vegetables ever since we had everything cleared out at our backyard and I really wanted to start my own li'l garden back there, too.

I've been seeing a lot of bloggers talking about using homegrown vegetables and herbs when preparing their food at home. So, my next addition to my bucket list is... I want to grow a garden.

I have posted about our garden before and so far, we've only grown a couple of flowers, ampalaya and peppers. We stopped growing veggies there because our neighbors would pick them out like they were theirs. Now that our backyard has been fenced already, I know anything we'd grow there would be safe and be well taken care of.

I am planning on starting to learn more about gardening and planting the herbs and vegetables I'm planning to grow at our backyard. I don't want to just plant things there without knowing my responsibilities like how much attention they all need, if I need to use some kind of landscape mulch to ensure they get all the nutrients from the soil, etc.

I heard about Rubberecycle and their 100% scrap tires rubber mulch products. I've learned that you can actually use their rubber mulch to protect the soil. I've read that using landscape rubber mulch reduces weed growth, maintenance expenses, and since you can choose from the variety of colors, it'll easily make your garden look beautiful! I'd love to use the Terracotta Red, Forest Green or the Cocoa Brown colors.

We haven't started landscaping the yard yet for it to be ready for growing a garden. But, I really want to push through with this because I've enjoyed how Mai is learning how to use different herbs and spices in her cooking. I'd love for her favorite herbs to be easily available to us.

So, what am I planning on growing at our future garden? Here's my partial list (so far):

Thyme - JustAnotherPixel.net Thyme
Yellow Cab uses this on their pizza!

Rosemary - JustAnotherPixel.netRosemary
Oh my! I love, love, love this herb! I can eat anything cooked with rosemary! LOLz

Parsley - JustAnotherPixel.net Parsley
I've also started to love this, especially with butter. :)

Chili Peppers - JustAnotherPixel.net Chili Peppers
Everyone in our family loves the spiciness these add to sauces, etc.

Calamansi or Calamondin - JustAnotherPixel.net Calamansi / Calamondin
I love calamansi juice! I also love calamansi with fish sauce for our Nilagang Baka :)

Tomatoes - JustAnotherPixel.net Tomatoes
Yes, I wanna grow them at our backyard. Might be a challenge, but, I'll try.

That's it, for now. I still have a long list, but, those are the first ones I want to try growing at our backyard garden.

Do you have a garden?
If yes, I'd love to hear some tips from you on growing herbs and veggies!
Please share them at the comments section. Thank you! :)
