A few minutes ago, at around 6:42pm today March 21, 2011, an intensity 5.8 earthquake was experienced here in Metro Manila and in nearby Laguna and Cavite areas. I was here inside our shop when it happened and I was preparing to close when I felt that sudden earth shake. What was scary was it started as a vertical shaking, like I jumped or the floor gave in on me.
Since I was already on Facebook, I immediately posted about it. While checking Twitter and my Facebook newsfeed (I know, what a geek right? *LOL*), I saw other people posting about it. My friends coming from Las Pinas, Mandaluyong, Laguna and Cavite were all saying they felt the earthquake. So, the whole of Metro Manila should've felt it. Otherwise, you might have been too busy to have noticed it. It lasted for about 10 seconds. I felt really dizzy. I'm already sick AND feeling tired so it made me feel worse.
Other people are asking what the intensity of the earthquake that hit Manila was. Philvocs said it's intensity 5.8, and USGS said 5.4 for Mindoro, the epicenter of the earthquake, based on the news updates I've read on Twitter and Facebook. See, there's a point in all my geekiness - I get easily updated about stuff like this. ^_^
The epicenter of the earthquake was near Lubang Island in Mindoro. I wonder how scarier it was for them. *sigh* Here in Manila, reports say it was only intensity 3. I can't believe it considering how scary it was for me.
Anyway, I really hope this earthquake that hit Manila is not at all a preshock. But, let's all still prepare in case anything happens. Let's continue praying for all our safety. Don't panic. All we can do is pray for our safety.
Update: The earthquake started at 6:36pm in Mindoro. I felt it around 6:42pm. How about you?
